TRASH & HAZARDOUS WASTE QUESTIONS

Regular pickup day for emptying gray garbage roll carts and blue recycle roll carts is each Tuesday. The carts should be placed out for emptying by 7:00AM of that day at a minimum of two feet from the edge of the concrete alley surface (which keeps the alleyway clear for vehicle movement, and reduces chances for damage to vehicle mirrors, ruts on opposite side, etc.). After the carts have been emptied on “trash day”, please pick up items/debris from around the carts. Remove the carts from the alley & keep them a minimum of two feet from the edge of the concrete alley surface.

WHAT IF MY TRASH CONTAINER/ROLL CART IS DAMAGED (GRAY – GARBAGE & BLUE – RECYCLE)?

Report any damaged carts (missing/broken lids, wheels, etc.) to 311 or the City of Dallas website (www.dallascityhall.com), and they will be repaired/replaced at no cost to you. (It is important to have lids in place to help keep items from being accidently released from the containers, animals/varmints from getting in, and contamination of recyclables from rain.)

HOW DO I DISPOSE OF HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE (HHW)?

HHW are chemicals/products which could cause harm to the environment if they are thrown into your garbage, poured down the drain or storm sewer, dumped, or stored incorrectly. These include paint & home repair products, lawn & garden chemicals, aerosol sprays, pool chemicals, craft & hobby supplies, cleaners & polishes, batteries, automotive fluids & oil filters, fluorescent light tubes, computers & cell phones. They can be taken to the Dallas County Home Chemical Collection Center for reuse or proper disposal. It is located at 11234 Plano Road, Dallas 75243 (Very convenient to us - one mile north of 635/LBJ) (214) 553 –1765.

WHERE CAN I TAKE TRASH MATERIALS IF I MISS REGULAR COLLECTION TIMES?

You may also take trash materials to transfer stations at no charge for Dallas residents in passenger cars, SUVS, pickups, and trailers less than 15 feet long hauling their own waste from their residences. (A current, valid Texas driver’s license showing a Dallas address or a current Dallas water utilities bill is required as proof of residency.) Northeast (Fair Oaks) Transfer Station is located fairly close to us at 7677 Fair Oaks Ave., (214) 670-6126. They accept anything you would normally put in your regular trash, anything you put out for bulky trash, grass clippings, recyclables, electronics for recycling, and even tires (limit 6 per year, not to exceed 25 inches in diameter).
